President Jean Eden's December Message

At a time when Republicans were supposed to have retreated in sulky defeat, we have had an exciting and informative year. Even more importantly – we had fun!

Our successful Membership Tea was in February was enlivened by Dr. Giertz’ rendition of “Lincoln Remembrances” and a talk by La Habra Mayor, Jim Beamish. In March, Marianne Zippi explained the “The Myths & Facts of Islamic Takeover” with a very interesting question and answer period following. April focused on youth with Debra Pauly on why the young are liberal, and young Jeremy Yamagouchi speaking on “The Next Generation in Politics.” Of course our 50th Anniversary celebration at the Embassy Suites with Brea RWF was the highlight of our year. Congressman Gary Miller spoke to us and David Horowitz’ rendition of Teddy Roosevelt brought the house down.

Although we had no general meeting in June, we had a great time at our Boutique Trunk Show and August brought the Community Western BBQ. Between the live auction, great band and delicious food this was an event we hope to repeat, plus it was a successful fund raiser for our Scholarship Fund. Assemblyman Curt Hagman stopped by with his kids, and gave us an update on Sacramento.

We were invited to join Brea RWF in September to hear O.C. Sheriff Sandra Hutchinson. In October, Diane Devore gave a lively talk on being a politician’s wife, and we heard from the three candidates running for the 72nd District State Assembly: Chris Norby, Linda Ackerman and Richard Faher. Chuck Devore impressed everyone in November by conducting his talk moving among the audience with no notes. His conservative Republican viewpoint was refreshing. We will wind up our year with the Hearthside Holiday Home Tour on Sunday, December 13th which will really put you in the Christmas spirit.

Thank you all for your kind words and encouragement this past year and especially for the showers of “get well” cards following my surgery.

Have a Blessed and Merry, Merry Christmas.
